Learning objective

Complete a reviewable foreign-currency close and issue separate Thai entity books and a group reporting pack.

Roles

Thai finance, group finance, GL, AR/AP, treasury, tax owner and audit liaison.

Prerequisites

  • Qualified owners approve entity functional currency, group reporting currency and accounting policy.
  • Authoritative sources and uses for spot, closing, average and historical rates are defined.
  • Foreign-currency customers, suppliers, banks, accounts and group mappings are clean.

Completion checks

  • Any foreign balance can be recalculated from original amount, functional amount, rate and difference.
  • Revaluation journals reconcile to reversal or settlement.
  • Group translation does not overwrite Thai statutory books and the pack remains traceable.

Common errors

  • Using one rate for all balance-sheet, income and equity items.
  • Unapproved rate uploads or reopening a closed period silently.
  • Posting group translation differences into Thai statutory books.

Thailand project note

A Thai licensed accountant, auditor or tax adviser must confirm functional currency, TFRS/tax-book differences, FX gain/loss and presentation. This guide is a system-control framework only.

Steps

01Configure transaction, functional and reporting currencies; prevent casual changes to currency or rate type on posted documents.
02Maintain dated, typed and sourced rates; independent review checks missing, duplicate and unusual movements.
03Reconcile foreign-currency receivables, payables, banks and intercompany balances before freezing late activity.
04Run open-item revaluation, separate realised and unrealised differences, and validate reversal or carry-forward rules.
05Translate THB entity data to group currency under approved policy, separately validating historical equity and income-statement treatment.
06Release Thai trial balance and group pack with rate version, revaluation list, approvals and variance explanations.
