Sunwoda's USD 1 Billion Thailand Battery-Cell Project Approved as First Plant Advances

Thailand approved more than USD 1 billion of Sunwoda investment in EV and energy-storage battery cells, while the first Chonburi factory was under construction at the time of the announcement.

Sunwoda Automotive Energy Technology (Thailand) plans battery-cell facilities in the Eastern Economic Corridor for electric vehicles and energy-storage systems. Its first Chonburi factory is designated to make lithium-ion cells for EV manufacturers.

The official release said in March 2025 that construction of the first factory was progressing and that it was expected to employ more than 1,000 people after production starts. The wider project includes manufacturing, research and product development; the release did not state that production had started.
