Chery and OMODA & JAECOO open Rayong NEV plant: interpreting the 80,000-unit target
Thailand's government, the Thai Automotive Industry Association and Xinhua confirm the plant opened in Rayong on 20 April 2026. All cite an 80,000-unit annual target, but timing and wording differ, so the scopes remain explicit.

What happened: Chery Group and OMODA & JAECOO inaugurated a new-energy-vehicle manufacturing plant in Rayong on 20 April 2026. Thailand's government PR department, the Thai Automotive Industry Association and Xinhua each reported the event.
Confirmed facts: the Rayong plant serves domestic and export markets. TAIA says the BOI-promoted project represents about THB5 billion and will have capacity of at least 80,000 vehicles annually; the Thailand government page also states planned annual capacity of 80,000.
Scope difference: Xinhua describes 80,000 units as a target by 2030 and reports aluminium-body welding and battery-production lines. Because sources phrase the timeline differently, this article does not present 80,000 as actual 2026 output.
Not yet confirmed: public sources do not disclose current monthly output, model allocation, local-content ratio, supplier list, export orders or battery-line utilisation. BOI promotion, opening and full output are separate stages and do not identify an awarded supplier.
Industry impact: the project adds NEV-vehicle and battery-related manufacturing capability in Rayong and strengthens Thailand's ASEAN export role. Its realised effect should be tracked through output, local sourcing, model launches and supplier qualifications.
Digital and ERP connection: an assembly plant needs common control across vehicle configuration, BOM/engineering change, supplier PPAP, VIN and battery traceability, production planning, station reporting, quality, warranty, spare parts and export orders, with time-versioned separation of target, schedule and actual completion.
