Learning objective

Complete an explainable MRP trial and convert approved proposals into controlled supply actions.

Roles

Demand and material planners, buyers, production, warehouse and IT

Prerequisites

  • Trusted BOM, lead-time, inventory and inbound data.
  • Defined planning calendar and sourcing rules.

Completion checks

  • Sample net requirements can be recalculated from captured inputs.
  • Released proposals retain owner, time and rationale.

Common errors

  • Rerunning MRP while master and transaction data remain wrong.
  • Mass-releasing proposals without review.

Thailand project note

For Thailand, confirm Thai/English business and item masters, THB and foreign currencies, Asia/Bangkok time, segregation of duties, electronic records and local document retention. VAT, WHT, customs, BOI, statutory accounting, product compliance and occupational-safety settings require current review by qualified Thai professionals; this tutorial is not legal or tax advice.

Steps

01Set organisation scope, planning horizons, calendar, lead times, safety stock, lot sizing and sourcing rules.
02Validate cut-off status for forecasts, orders, stock, inbound purchases, WIP, BOM versions and low-level codes.
03Save parameters and a data snapshot, then run net requirements in test.
04For sampled items, explain gross demand, available balance, scheduled receipts, net demand and proposed dates.
05Review shortage, expedite, defer, cancel, excess and obsolete proposals; record acceptance or rejection rationale.
06Release requisitions or planned orders only after buyer and production-planner confirmation.
07Compare plan with actual receipts, completions and shortages; approve parameter changes and rerun the trial.
